Definition and Scope
Thru hiking means hiking an entire long-distance trail end-to-end in a single continuous journey. Unlike section hiking, where a trail is completed over multiple trips, a thru hike typically takes weeks or months and covers hundreds or thousands of miles. Famous examples include the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail. The commitment requires physical endurance, mental resilience, and meticulous logistical planning.
